Our products are made by hand in Edmonton, Canada with sustainable material while being mindful of our impact on our community and environment. We exist to create and share experiences where mindfulness and style come together in a seamless fashion.

Hello! My name is Sylvia – the founder, curator, and designer of Knotty & Nice. 

I am a student at the University of Alberta School of Business. Some of my hobbies include knitting, photography, painting, and yoga. I recently picked up kickboxing and lifting as well! I'm always up to try new things.   

In fifth grade, I got a knitting book and taught myself how to knit. Soon after, I would visit my aunt and great aunt to knit with them, and they taught me their knitting tips. Back then, I knitted scarves for my stuffed animals because my mom would not let me buy clothes for them. As my skills progressed, I would knit toques, scarves, and tops for friends and family. In return, I was able to show my aunts new techniques that I had learned. Nowadays, I knit so much that I can even knit with my eyes closed!

During 2013, I started to become aware of the negative impact my daily choices had. Specifically my purchases related to food, household products, and cosmetic items. Since then, I've been living a chemical free lifestyle and regularly visit the Farmers' Market for organic goods and hand crafted items. In regards to cosmetic items, I make my own organic creams, face misters, and face masks. I'm currently testing out recipes on making my own makeup. If you have any suggestions, please send me a message. I would love to connect with like minded people! There is something empowering about knowing exactly what is in your food and how your products are made.

Overall, being mindful about my choices have had a huge impact on my life and health. I truly believe that health is wealth. Choosing this lifestyle has been life altering – in a good way! I carry these values throughout my business, as well. 

Some of the steps I take to ensure Knotty & Nice is actively sustainable:

  • There is ZERO plastic involved with packaging
  • Everything is 100% recyclable or compostable
  • We print our labels on re-purposed paper
